15 New OTT Releases This Week (August 3–9, 2026): Movies and Web Series Streaming on Netflix, Prime Video, ZEE5 & More

Didn’t make it to the theatre this week? Same here, honestly. But the good news is the OTT release this week lineup is doing a lot of the heavy lifting for us. Netflix, ZEE5, Prime Video, ManoramaMAX, JioHotstar, and Apple TV+ are all dropping something worth clearing your evening for. Grab your snacks, and let’s get into it.

Tamil

Idhayam Murali — Netflix, August 7

Atharvaa plays Murali, a guy who falls hard in college and never says a word about it. Years later, he’s flying back from New York for his own wedding, and a random conversation on the flight drags all those old feelings right back up. It’s basically asking, ‘Can you ever really close the door on a love you never opened your mouth about?’

The film went into theatres with a lot riding on it: the trailer sold a breezy, nostalgic romance, and the “tribute to Atharvaa’s father Murali” angle only added to the hype (plus a bit of controversy before release, which never hurts ticket sales). The reaction once it actually released was mixed. People liked the nostalgia and the feel-good stretches, but a chunk of viewers felt it didn’t quite clear the bar the trailer set. If you skipped it in theatres, Netflix is your chance to watch it and form your own opinion, and if slow-burn Tamil romance is your genre, we’ve also rounded up the 30 best Tamil romantic movies of all time worth revisiting.

Nooru Saami — ZEE5, August 7

This one’s based on real incidents, and it hits different because of that. Selvi is a widow who’s spent years raising her two sons alone. Once they’re grown, she decides she wants to remarry, and that decision blows up into resistance from her own kids, her relatives, and the whole conservative village around her. It’s really a film about whether a mother, after doing everything expected of her, is still allowed to want something for herself.

There was barely any promotion for this before release, but word of mouth did the work. It’s turned into one of Vijay Antony and director Sasi’s most well-received films together since Pichaikkaran, with both critics and audiences responding to the performances and the emotional writing. If you missed the theatrical run, ZEE5 is your second chance at one of the year’s quieter, more talked-about family dramas.

Vadhandhi: Season 2 — Prime Video, August 7

Season 2 is a clean break from Season 1: a new mystery, a new lead, and M. Sasikumar stepping in as SI Moosa Raaza. It kicks off when skeletal remains turn up during a highway inauguration in Madurai. What looks like an old, forgotten case unravels into something much messier: political pressure, buried secrets, conflicting statements, and a prisoner named Mani who might’ve been locked up for a crime he didn’t commit.

The bar here is genuinely high. Vadhandhi: The Fable of Velonie is considered one of the best Tamil web series ever made, so a fresh mystery with a new lead has a lot to live up to. Bollywood

Main Vaapas Aaunga — Netflix, August 7

Imtiaz Ali’s Partition-era drama, and honestly, one of the year’s quieter surprises. A 95-year-old man revisits a love story torn apart during the 1947 Partition, and the film moves between his present-day memories and the young romance itself. Naseeruddin Shah, Diljit Dosanjh, Vedang Raina, and Sharvari carry it.

No big promotional push, no gimmicks; it just won people over on story and performances alone. It’s also being read as a proper comeback for Imtiaz Ali after a run of films that didn’t land the way his earlier work did. If you skipped it in theatres, don’t skip it on Netflix.

Operation Safed Sagar — Netflix, August 7

A Hindi military drama built around the Indian Air Force’s real role in the 1999 Kargil War, the Golden Arrows Squadron and their high-altitude missions, told through both the action and the personal cost to the soldiers involved. Jimmy Shergill, Siddharth, Dia Mirza, and Abhay Verma lead.

War dramas based on true events tend to do well with Indian audiences, and this looks built for exactly that crowd. If patriotic, based-on-real-events stories are your thing, this is shaping up to be one of the week’s bigger premieres.

Telugu

Lenin — ZEE5, August 7

Akhil Akkineni goes rural for this one: an orphan named Lenin, raised by the village head, grows up alongside his foster family in an Andhra Pradesh village. He falls for Bharathi, and just when life looks settled, old secrets and power struggles start surfacing. There’s a Mahabharata influence running through it too, which adds some weight to the family drama.

This was an important comeback for Akhil after Agent didn’t land the way people hoped. Critics were split on the screenplay and the climax, but audiences mostly showed up for what they’re calling his career-best performance: the grounded village setting, a strong interval block, and an emotional payoff that landed for most people. The common complaint online was that the climax twist felt tacked on and the romance track could’ve used more room. If rural, high-stakes action stories are your thing, it’s worth a watch, and Dhanush fans should also check our top action movies from Dhanush for more of that flavor, just from the Tamil side.

Malayalam

Kattalan — ManoramaMAX / Simply South, August 7

Set deep in the forest and tribal territory, this one follows a forest officer sent to look into a string of strange incidents inside a protected reserve. What he finds is a tangle of illegal activity, local folklore, and secrets that put both people and wildlife at risk.

It was released with almost no buzz, but it’s slowly earning fans for its grounded storytelling and tense, atmospheric screenplay. If you like your thrillers realistic rather than flashy, keep an eye on this one; it’s got a similar bite to what we liked (and didn’t) in our Madharaasi review, another recent South Indian action thriller.

Sathyathil Sambhavichathu — Sun NXT, August 7

Inspired by a true event, this Malayalam investigative thriller starts small, with an ordinary-seeming incident, and spirals into something much bigger as the truth gets harder to separate from the story people are telling themselves. It’s been picking up praise for how grounded and realistic it feels, especially with viewers who like their crime dramas slow-burn rather than twist-a-minute. If that’s you, this is a solid pick for the week.

Hollywood & International

The Last House — Netflix, August 7

Louis Leterrier directs this sci-fi survival thriller, with Greta Lee (fresh off Past Lives) and Wagner Moura (yes, Narcos’ Wagner Moura) leading a family of four who wake up trapped inside their own home with no way out. Supplies start running low, tempers start fraying, and whatever’s sealed them in isn’t explaining itself anytime soon. Claustrophobic, eerie, and with a cast this strong, it’s probably the most-anticipated international drop of the week.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie — JioHotstar, August 7

Mario, Luigi, Peach, and the gang leave the Mushroom Kingdom behind for space this time, running into new galaxies and new threats along the way. Coming off the massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, expectations are high, and with dubbed versions across Indian languages, it’s an easy family pick for the weekend, Nintendo fan or not.

Ted Lasso Season 4 — Apple TV+, August 5

Jason Sudeikis is back, and this time he’s not coaching the men’s squad; he’s taking over a second-division women’s football team, the Lady Greyhounds. Same warmth, new challenge.

My Life with the Walter Boys Season 3 — Netflix, August 6

Based on Ali Novak’s novel, this one picks up right after that Season 2 cliffhanger. Jackie’s still figuring out her feelings; the Walter family’s still a lot; and every relationship in the show is about to get tested. If you’ve been following Jackie’s story, this is one of Netflix’s bigger returning titles this month.

One Hundred Years of Solitude  Season 2 — Netflix, August 5

Netflix wraps up its adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s novel, a book people genuinely thought couldn’t be filmed. Season 1 got a lot of love for how faithfully it handled the material. If you’re into prestige TV with real scale and history behind it, this finale’s worth your time.

The Shards — Netflix, August 7

Based on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel, this is a psychological thriller set in 1980s LA: privileged high schoolers, a mysterious new student, and a serial killer loose in the city. Paranoia does the rest. If you like your thrillers slow and unsettling rather than jump-scare loud, this is for you.

Sterling Point — Prime Video, August 8

A mystery drama on a remote Canadian island: a family’s quiet life gets disrupted by a string of unexplained events, and pretty soon everyone in the house is a suspect. Slow-burn family mystery fans, this one’s aimed right at you.

Beast Race — Prime Video, August 7

A Brazilian dystopian thriller set in a futuristic Rio, where contestants race for survival and alliances shift constantly. If Squid Game or The Hunger Games are your thing, this scratches the same itch.
